DO WE HAVE TO OBEY?

                                        

Obviously, it is up to us to obey someone or not. Let’s introspect our lives & see some examples below.

1. During childhood & teenage lives we were constantly protected & guided by our parents & teachers, meaning indirectly we have obeyed their instructions in our lives. Without their supervision & instructions we could have been lost in this world a longtime ago. 

2. To acquire a higher level of education we have to obey or follow the college’s curriculum.

3. As a citizen of a nation we are indirectly instructed and govern by the country’s laws. 

Either we know it or not we must obey the country’s rules & regulations. We can not live a irresponsible crazy life the way we want to live otherwise we will be punished and forced to surrender to the government. 

4. To become the best sport player we have to obey the coach’s instructions.

5. While driving also we are obeying the Google map to travel from point A to point B.

6. As a patient we are obeying the doctor’s prescription to cure the illnesses.

7. We are obeying the traffic rules & regulations in order to avoid accidents & traffic jams.... so on & so forth.

8. Even in the marriage life we have to obey the WIFE’s instruction to have a smooth & successful journey together...LOL 😂. At home my wife scolds me & shouts at me all the time 1. Don’t you even dare to come in kitchen, 2. Don’t even bother to clean the house, 3. Just seat-down on sofa, watch the TV, listen the Bhajan, Read the Gita, Write the Blog...And I Obey everything without any questions or arguments....that’s the secret of our Happy Marriage Life. I am not joking, I never do. If you guys don’t believe me, please come to our home & verify the truth...... Hilarious LOL 😂 🤣 😆.

In short throughout the life directly or indirectly we are following or obeying someone in our life. By obeying someone to whom we can trust (our parents, family members, teachers, scientists, technology, textbooks or friends) can be helpful in achieving our goal and also save us some times in searching the facts. 

Similarly in spiritual journey also we have to obey or follow (Obey with Devotion not with Fear) some guidelines which help us to live spiritually conscious lives & evolved further. Obeying the Scriptures like Gita & Bhagavatam will guide us towards the right path--Path of Duty, Wisdoms, Devotion & Liberation. These guidelines are the eternal truth, it’s meaning does not change with time, places or circumstances and are universally applicable to everyone irrespective of their nationality & religion.

Bg 16.23 -- He who discards scriptural injunctions and acts according to his own whims attains neither perfection, nor happiness, nor the supreme destination.

Bg 16.24 -- One should therefore understand what is duty and what is not duty by the regulations of the scriptures. Knowing such rules and regulations, one should act so that he may gradually be elevated.

God has given us the Intelligence & Free Will to make the decisions.

Bg 18.63 -- Thus I have explained to you knowledge still more confidential. Deliberate on this fully, and then do what you wish to do.

With respect to everyone’s values & beliefs, whichever GUIDELINES ( Bible, Quran, Torah, Tripitaka-Buddhism, Agama-Jainism, Guru Granth Sahib-Sikhism, Gita or any other...) METHODS or WAYS work for us is good.

Many times a word Hearing is used instead of Listening when it comes to the Scriptures. Because Scriptures are so potent that simply by Hearing them even if you don’t try to interpret or analyze or understand them still there will be passive positive effects on our mind & senses.

We can follow either the Quran, Bible,Torah, Tripitaka, Agama, Guru Granth Sahib, Gita or any other Philosophy which makes sense to us, purifies us, elevates our consciousness and qualifies us to understand God and instill the love of God & his creation. ( whichever way we can understand God -- either Personal with many names or Impersonal as an universal consciousness & energy ).

Don’t try to understand God by Name, Religion or Depiction ( means image, picture...etc ) but try to understand him by the Definition through Scriptures. The Transcendental subject of God & his creation cannot be understood by mental speculation. Some times people ask why God is Supreme? It is just like asking why is the circle circular? Just by definition, the circle is circular. Similarly by definition, God is unborn, complete, unlimited, infinite, eternal, the Absolute Truth the source of everything, cause of all causes. 

I see God, besides the above mentioned qualities, as an eternal living person ( not a abstract or some kind of light ) known by the name KRISHNA meaning one who attracts everyone has also MANY other NAMES, forms, abodes, incarnations, activities, qualities, associates, is full of wisdom, bliss, and the cause of all causes.

Bg 9.17 -- I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable oṁ. I am also the Ṛg, the Sāma and the Yajur Vedas.

Bg:13-12:-- Accepting the importance of self-realization; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth ( God ) – all these I declare to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance. ( Vedabase.com ).

CITY of NINE GATES:

                                        

This article was originally presented at Toward a Science of Consciousness, an international conference attended by leading scientists, physicians, philosophers, and other scholars, and hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson, April 1996. Very interesting article written by Drutakarma Dasa (Michael Cremo), will be appreciated by science & philosophy students.

The City of Nine Gates (Nava Dvara Pura) represents the human body, with its nine openings; two eyes, two nostrils, two ears, the mouth, the anus, and the genital opening. 

Is There A Conscious Self distinct from the physical mechanism of the body? Is there a mind distinct from the brain? Those who answer yes to such questions are called dualists, and they are rare in contemporary science and philosophy. An allegory from the Srimad-Bhagavatam sheds light on the mind/body connection.

Dualistic solutions to the mind/body problem are perhaps hampered by, among other things, inadequate analogies and allegories on the topic in Western thought. Whether we turn to Plato’s cave, to the formulations of Descartes, or to the proverbial little green man in the brain, there is apparently not enough substance to inspire the modern researcher of consciousness to seriously consider dualism. But if we turn to chapters 25-29 of Canto Four in the Bhagavata Purana, or Srimad-Bhagavatam, a Sanskrit text from India, we will find the elaborate allegory of the City of Nine Gates. The sophistication of this allegory challenges modern researchers to take a second look at dualism.

The central character in the allegory is a king named Puranjana. The Sanskrit word puran-jana means, one who enjoys in a body. So the king name hints at soul/body dualism. King Puranjana originally existed as a spirit soul in a purely spiritual realm in relationship with a supreme conscious being, God.

Materialists may oppose the introduction of this transcendental realm, which exists outside the material universe knowable by science. But even the materialist cosmology of modern science incorporates a transcendental realm, that is to say, a realm that exists beyond the universe knowable by science, and from which that universe emerged at the time of the Big Bang. This transcendental reality, existing beyond time, space, and matter, is called the quantum mechanical vacuum and is pictured as a pure energy field in which particles appear and instantly disappear. From this sea of virtual particles some expand and continue to exist. According to many cosmologists, our universe is one such expansion.

So both the Bhagavata Purana and the Big Bang cosmology of modern science point to an eternal transcendental existence from which our universe of matter, with its features of time and space, arises. Now, which version of ultimate reality better explains the variegated reality of our experience? Modern cosmologists and other theorists have a great deal of difficulty in coaxing enough variety from the rather smooth and featureless universe that, according to theory, expands from the quantum mechanical vacuum. The origin of consciousness also poses a difficult problem. In light of this, an ultimate reality that is itself conscious and variegated might offer a solution.

Having departed from the spiritual world, by misuse of independence, King Puranjana journeys through the material world, accompanied by Avijnata Sakha (the unknown friend). The Unknown Friend corresponds to the Supersoul expansion of God. When Puranjana leaves God and the spiritual world, his memory of them becomes covered. But unknown to Puranjana, God accompanies him on his journey through the material world. According to the Bhagavata Purana, God accompanies all spirit souls in the material world as their Unknown Friend, who observes and sanctions their activities.

In the Western world, mind/brain dualism is identified with French philosopher Rene Descartes, who posited the existence of (1) matter extended in space and (2) mind existing outside space. Cartesian dualism is characterized by an interaction between mind and matter, but explaining how this interaction takes place has proved problematic for advocates of the Cartesian model. For example, how are impressions transmitted from the realm of matter to the completely different realm of mind? Descartes thought the connection between mind and matter occurred in the pineal gland in the brain, an answer most scientists today reject.

According to the Bhagavata Purana, both matter and the souls in the material world are energies of God, and as such both have a single spiritual source. The philosophy of the Bhagavata Purana is thus both dualist and monist simultaneously. The interactions of matter and the soul in the material world are mediated by the Supersoul, who exists inside each material atom and also accompanies each spirit soul. By the arrangement of the Supersoul, impressions of material experience can be channeled to the soul. How this takes place is the subject of the allegory of Puranjana.

Having left the spiritual world, Puranjana, accompanied by Avijnata Sakha (the Supersoul), wanders through the material world. He wants to find a suitable place to enjoy himself. In other words, he searches for a suitable kind of body to inhabit. He tries many kinds of bodies on many planets.

Here we note that each species of life consists of a soul inhabiting a particular kind of body. In this respect, the Bhagavata Purana account differs from that of Descartes, who held that only humans have souls. For Descartes, animals were simply automatons. If one concedes that animals, with all their signs of life and consciousness, are simply automatons, then why not human beings as well? The Bhagavata Purana model avoids this weakness of Descartes’s system

Indian space agency ISRO, whole India, Indian immigrants & many other people throughout the globe got disappointed, little down & depressed due to ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 Moon Landing failure. ISRO space agency lost communications with Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander moments before it was to land near the south pole of the Moon. ISRO is analyzing the data to figure out what happened, hopefully good news will come out soon. Let’s wish them a big success in near future. Success Is Around The Corner.

Everyone of us have failed many times in our lives before getting success. Intermittent failures indeed are helpful for our growth. They help us to keep our feet on ground, focus on reality, makes us humbled and prevent us from getting arrogant. They tempered our consciousness & give new perspective on life. They give us new information and teach us how to deal with our life.....and finally Success.

In dictionaries also word success comes after failure. In other word success is define as which follows failure. It is good to have intermittent failure in between success. If we keep getting success one after others, when failure comes after long intervals then it is unbearable. Intermittent failure keeps us healthy may be not wealthy...LOL 😂.

One of ancient scriptures Bhagavad Gita define success in terms of our efforts not as a result. We should be very attentive & do our best efforts either at work, in building the relationships or any other projects of our lives without focusing on their outcome. Yes, we can always analyze the result and see how we can improve ourselves.

Should I continue to live my life with Arrogance, Anger, Self-Centeredness, Greed, Envy, Lust, Possessiveness...and many other demonic qualities...LOL 😂? No, not at all. In the human form of life, I am capable to transform myself from Demonic to Divine...like a Transformers Toy... LOL 😂

Bg 16.4 -- Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance – these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Pṛthā.

Do I have any options other then Drinking, Gambling &  Smoking...to entertain myself?..... 🤣. I did not say drinking🍺 is bad...but it depends on what I drink 🥤....LOL 😂. Similarly Gambling is not bad but it depends on what I Gamble... 😂. If I am Gambling my life for my family, society, country or this planet 🌎...to save the culture, then it is all good 😃. Good culture will bring discipline, prosperity & peace in the world.

Bg 18.39 -- And that happiness which is blind to self-realization, which is delusion from beginning to end and which arises from sleep, laziness and illusion is said to be of the nature of ignorance.

Bg 18.58 -- If you become conscious of Me, you will pass over all the obstacles of conditioned life by My grace. If, however, you do not work in such consciousness but act through false ego, not hearing Me, you will be lost.
The million-dollar question is what should I do in my free time? Is there any activity available in society where I can use my free time (without quitting my responsibility), which indirectly helps me to entertain myself, makes me more energetic, efficient & cultured individual?

NOTE:
Many times a word Hearing is used instead of Listening when it comes to the Scriptures. Because Scriptures are so potent that simply by Hearing them even if you don’t try to interpret or analyze or understand them still there will be passive positive effects on our mind & senses.

We can follow either the Quran, Bible,Torah, Tripitaka-Buddhism, Agama-Jainism, Guru Granth Sahib-Sikhism, Gita or any other Philosophy which makes sense to us, purifies us, elevates our consciousness and qualifies us to understand God and instill the love of God & his creation. (whichever way we can understand God -- either Personal with many names or Impersonal as an universal consciousness & energy).

Don’t try to understand God by Name, Religion or Depiction (means image, picture...etc) but try to understand him by the Definition through Scriptures. The Transcendental subject of God & his creation cannot be understood by mental speculation. Some times people ask why God is Supreme? It is just like asking why is the circle circular? Just by definition, the circle is circular. Similarly by definition, God is unborn, complete, unlimited, infinite, eternal, the Absolute Truth the source of everything, cause of all causes. 

I see God, besides the above mentioned qualities, as an eternal living person (not a abstract or some kind of light) known by the name KRISHNA meaning one who attracts everyone has also MANY other NAMES, forms, abodes, incarnations, activities, qualities, associates, is full of wisdom, bliss, and the cause of all causes.

Bg 9.17 -- I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable oṁ. I am also the Ṛg, the Sāma and the Yajur Vedas.

Bg:13-12:-- Accepting the importance of self-realization; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth ( God ) – all these I declare to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance. ( Vedabase.com ).

CONSCIOUSNESSES a COVERING for OUR SOUL:

                                       

 
The evolution of man is the evolution of his consciousness. 

Bg 3.38: As fire is covered by smoke, a mirror is covered by dust and the embryo is covered by the womb similarly the living entity (SOUL) is covered by different degrees of consciousness. (vedabase.com).  

Consciousness is a symptom of the Soul. The Soul is reflecting to the outer world through our consciousness - meaning through our senses. Our soul is covered with layers of consciousness reflecting our inner development. There are 5 layers, shells or sheaths described as Panchkoshas covering our Soul. Each Kosha represents the level of our development or consciousness. Let's understand each Kosha in brief.

1. Annamaya Kosha: Anna means food: In this primitive stage of life, a person is living bodily concepts of life meaning Food & Fun are the only purposes of life. We try to live in either the Being Stage (simple lifestyle) or the Wellbeing stage (Sophisticated lifestyle, Consuming mentality) depending on our affordability...LOL. Everyone of us keeps upgrading our lifestyle depending on our bank balances...😂 

2. Pranamaya Kosha: Prana means life: Besides food & fun, the next important thing is to protect or defend ourselves and increase our longevity. In ancient times, Yogis use to live healthier & longer by Pranayama & other Yogas. In the modern world, people are performing many kinds of exercises to keep themselves physically fit to live longer. 

In short, Stage 1 & 2 are all about āhāra-nidrā-bhaya-maithunam—Eating-Sleeping-Mating-Defending. Bird, beast, insect or fish, everyone is busy behind survival & sense gratification: "Where is food? Where is shelter? Where is a mate? How to defend?" Man is also doing the same business but in sophisticated ways...LOL. 😂 

Bg 14.8 — O son of Bharata, know that the mode of darkness, born of ignorance, is the delusion of all embodied living entities. The results of this mode are madness, indolence and sleep, which bind the conditioned soul.

3. Manomaya Kosha: Mana means mind: In this stage, a person is thinking beyond food, fun & longevity. Mind is the connection point between the lower and upper sheaths. In this stage of consciousness, we realize that Man has the most evolved & powerful mind. It is the mind which controls the urges and desires of the various sensory organs. One who controls the mind, controls everything; an uncontrolled mind is the greatest enemy of a living entity.

Bg 6.5 — One must deliver himself with the help of his mind, and not degrade himself. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as well.

Bg 6.6 — For him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so, his mind will remain the greatest enemy.

4. Vigyanmaya Kosha: Vigyan means knowledge: The stage of Intellectual thinking and inquiring about spiritual knowledge. A Spiritual Journey begins with “Athato Brahma Jijnasa" is the 1st aphorism of Vedanta Sutra or Brahmā Sutra. It means that I have inquired & enjoyed enough of the worldly mundane subjects & object matters, but now it is time to inquire about Myself & the Absolute truth - the cause of all the causes. This is only possible in the human form of life. Various Questions that arise in our mind will help us to progress further. Examples include: 
1. Who am I?
2. What is my origin?
3. Why I am happy or suffering?
4. Who is the creator of this universe?
5. What is the purpose of my life?

5. Anandmaya Kosha: Anand means bliss: By nature we are pleasure seeking Souls. Throughout life, we are searching for joy and happiness in this world. By our own life experiences and observations of the world around us, we realize that material enjoyment is short lasting. There is no real happiness or inner satisfaction; it tastes like nectar in the beginning but like poison in the end...LOL. With further evolution of our consciousness by spiritual knowledge, associations of like minded people and by practicing Spiritual Yoga, we can experience inner satisfaction, fulfillment & everlasting joy or Bliss.

Bg 18.54 — One who is thus transcendentally situated at once realizes the Supreme Brahman and becomes fully joyful. He never laments or desires to have anything. He is equally disposed toward every living entity. Vedabase.com

It is easy to say, but difficult to follow. I am in the same boat with everyone else, or I may even be behind, but thinking in the right direction will help us to go in the right direction.

FOCUS HIGHER:

                                        

Some stimulating thoughts below can be helpful to FOCUS HIGHER & INWARD to evolve Spiritually.

1. If the higher human mind is not focused toward higher supreme objects, then by default, it will come down to lower mundane objects. (Higher supreme objects vary for every individual & they change with time, place & circumstances; they can be either Parents, Business Tycoons, Politicians, Film Stars, Philanthropists, Magicians 🎩...LOL 😂, Friends, Colleagues, Spouses, Siblings, Nature itself, Gurus or God/Scriptures). We can learn spirituality from everyone, a company of spiritually advanced people will help us to make rapid progress on spiritual path. 

2. Many times people say be yourself, yes be yourself, but be your higher self not your lower self, meaning continue to improve yourself. 

3. Without purpose to survive we will die physically, similarly without purpose to grow spiritually, we will die morally.

4. It is difficult to start & sustain spiritual journey, if your are FOMO (fear of missing out ) personality... LOL 😂. Association of spiritually minded people will help us to slowly transform from FOMO to JOMO (Joy of missing out) personality... LOL 😂.

5. Our Mind means Mentality or Consciousness is designed in such a way that if we can’t UPGRADE it with Spiritual thoughts then by default It will DEGRADE us.

6. The evolution of man is the evolution of his consciousness, and consciousness cannot be evolved unconsciously.

7. It is almost impossible for us to rise SPIRITUALLY if we can’t rise over the MATERIAL agony (dishonour, paucity, hatred, mistakes, deficiencies, aging, disease & Death) of life.

8. HUMAN LIFE is NEVER MEANT for SENSE GRATIFICATION, but for SELF-REALIZATION.

9. ONLY RIGHT I HAVE IN THIS WORLD IS THE RIGHT TO BE ENLIGHTENED.

10. HUMAN LIFE is NOT a JOURNEY to RESOLVE the MATERIAL PROBLEMS of the LIFE but IT IS VOYAGE for SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION.

11. OUR PRESENT LIFE, FUTURE DIRECTION & DESTINY ARE DEPENDENT ON HOW WE UTILIZE OUR MIND & MOMENT.

Bg 5.24 -- One whose happiness is within, who is active and rejoices within, and whose aim is inward is actually the perfect mystic. He is liberated in the Supreme, and ultimately he attains the Supreme.

MISERIES of LIFE:

                                        

SB: 10.14.58 says "padaṁ padaṁ yad vipadāṁ na teṣām " means there is struggle & danger at every steps in our life.

Since time immemorial, everyone of us is working hard, struggling or suffering while maintaining ourselves in this world. There are many challenges & obstacles in our lives; we can not escape from the chaotic lifestyle as our surrounding situations will never be perfect. The struggles, suffering or MISERIES of LIFE will continue till death. Let’s have a look & dive into these Miseries...LOL 😂.

Threefold Miseries of Materialistic life.

1. Adhyatmika: Misery due to our own body & mind, Examples: Toothache, Knee pain, Mental distress due to loss of wealth. Misery of aging, disease & death...etc

2. Adhibhautika: Miseries due to others body & mind meaning Harrasament by Spouse... LOL 😂. Miseries pertaining to the difficulties imposed by society, community, nation and other living entities like mosquito bites. 😂. Rules, Regulation & Punishment imposed by society. 

3. Adhidaivika: Miseries inflicted upon us by Mother Nature or natural calamities like earthquakes, tornadoes, droughts, floods....etc.

Bodily discomfort or suffering from these Miseries are relatively less painful then Mental pain or distress. These material miseries are unavoidable, unstoppable and come unexpectedly. Spiritual Wisdom will help us swallow & absorb the Pill of Miseries..LOL. It is almost impossible for us to rise SPIRITUALLY & enjoy the present situation in life if we can’t rise over these MISERIES or agonies of life. Spiritual knowledge will show us how to live in this world & how to leave this world...LOL 😂.

Bg 5.22 -- An intelligent person does not take part in the sources of misery, which are due to contact with the material senses. O son of Kuntī, such pleasures have a beginning and an end, and so the wise man does not delight in them.

Bg 2.14 -- O son of Kuntī, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.

Bg 2.15 -- O best among men [Arjuna], the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.

Bg 5.24 -- One whose happiness is within, who is active and rejoices within, and whose aim is inward is actually the perfect mystic. He is liberated in the Supreme, and ultimately he attains the Supreme.
